Healthy Skeptics Announcement: Looking for people with sleep “issues” for a clinical trial

Dear Healthy Skeptics Members and friends,

We are currently enrolling subjects to evaluate a unique, non-ingestible sleep aid.  We need 100 subjects to place a sleep aid device under their pillow.

Description: This is a thin 10” x 7” gel pack containing an aloe-based gel mixed with quartzite.

Criteria: Must be over 18, with difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or experiencing poor sleep quality due to nightmares.

Excluded: Anyone presently being treated for congestive heart failure, or any condition related to their sleep problem.

Anyone currently taking a prescription sleep medication such as Ambien, Trazodone, Rozerem, or Halcion. OK if using natural sleep aids such as CBD, melatonin.

Background: This unique device was sent to us for an initial investigation, to evaluate the feasibility of a placebo-controlled clinical trial. The product produced rapid sleep quality benefits in the majority of individuals, including a retired nurse with a 30-year history of insomnia. Thus, we have designed a larger double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to advance the science through publication in a peer-reviewed biomedical journal.

Proposed mode of action: Like all true crystals, quartzite emits a specific frequency. It is proposed that this can be modified to produce a frequency that interacts with the normal brain wave frequencies associated with the various stages of relaxation and sleep. This clinical trial seeks to eliminate the possibility that observed effects are caused by the user’s expectation or desire for benefit.

Design and cost.

Subjects will be asked to fill out a two-page, sleep quality questionnaire before using the device, and again after night three and night seven.

We are asking for $20 to cover the cost of materials and shipping. Subjects and administrator will not know who receives the active device and who receives a look-alike placebo. If, after breaking the distribution code, we find that you were given the placebo device, you will be given a 50% discount coupon towards the purchase of an active device.
